More roads for north Dubai
by Greg Whitaker on Monday, 25 February 2008
A new highway has been completed that cuts through the entire industrial hub of Dubai, linking the Emirates Road with the Dubai Bypass road. The 10 km-long road that took 12 months to build at a cost of AED 250m will offer quick access to vehicles transporting goods and services across Dubai Industrial City. The road was laid by construction firm Tatweer as part of an AED 770m infrastructure development that also includes a two new sewage treatment works.
Additionally, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded large contracts for its parallel roads project to Todini Co and Al Naboodah Contracting.
Todini Co will take phase 3 of the project, valued at US $122m, while Al Naboodah Contracting is to manage a 20km section of road in a deal worth US $260m.
The finished project, scheduled for completion within two years, will create a 108km corridor extending from Sheikh Rashid Road to the north, terminating at the Abu Dhabi border.
Better Dubai Connections
Hi Azizter,
Thank you very much for the update. Do you think it will help the bottle neck zone between the border Sharjah-Dubai and Emirate city which has only three lanes on each side.
thanks once again
Better Dubai Connections
Hi oshurie,
It may not help the bottleneck in itself but should reduce journey times after this. With all the money the dubai muncipality is spending on infrastructure and the general UAE emphasis on developing the northern emirates one hope that this will come to the attention of the relevant departments soon and rectified.
